Design & Build Quality

BoAt Airdropes 121v2 comes in the shape and design of the earplugs with rubber tips while BoAt Airdopes 131 looks like earbuds with the classic round-like shape.

Personally, I’m not a big fan of solid round earbuds as they don’t fit properly for many people including myself. If the earbuds don’t have rubber tips then I at least prefer an in-ear shape.

Also, the noise cancellation is not always good as it doesn’t fit very well. Last but not least, Airdopes isn’t good to use during heavy motion.

As for looks, both look good. Airdopes 121v2 has 3 colours options and Airdopes 131 has 6 (IPL editions are also available). All colours look good. But out of the Black and Steelblue are my favourites.

Airdopes 121v2 got a matte finish. Only the middle part is glossy with a ‘boAt’. Airdopes 131 has a full glossy finish with a white brand symbol.

Both are designed to provide ultimate comfort. The earbud of Airdopes 121v2 weighs only 4 grams each. Not sure about Airdopes 131 as there’s no official mention. But they are almost as light I guess.

Not to mention that they both really are very comfortable but as I said the earbuds of Airdopes 131 might not fit well which can be annoying.

I have no complaints about the build or material quality. Both have a good build quality based on the price.

I found Airdopes 121v2 more compact, easy to use, and comfortable for better fitting.

Bass & Sound Quality

BoAt Airdopes 121v2 and Airdopes 131 has 8mm and 13mm drivers. But hold on! Don’t get too excited. Just because Airdopes 131 has 13mm drivers doesn’t mean they are better.

The fact is Airdopes 131 fails to deliver the bass quality like a 13mm driver. But the sound quality is good but not more than Airdopes 121v2.

I think the design and fit are a big reason behind the lack of sound quality and bass. The better fit earbuds will have the better they can deliver sound and bass to the ears properly.

As they get loose with a bit of motion, it’s obvious that you won’t get to enjoy music properly.

On the other hand, Airdopes 121v2 got a good fit. It seals your ear and doesn’t let enter outside noises.

Also, Airdopes 121v2 itself sounds clearer than Airdopes 131 and so is the bass.

Battery Life & Charging Time

BoAt Airdopes 121v2 and 131 have a full playback time of 14 hours and 12 hours respectively with the charging case.

Individually the Airdopes 131 earbuds last up to 3 hours while Airdopes 121v2 last up to 3.5 hours.

Both need at least 2 hours to get fully charged. Sadly neither has a fast-charging feature.

So, I’ll say both are kind of identical in terms of battery backup and charging time. Also based on the competition, the battery backup is normal.

Controls & Functions

Both Airdopes 121v2 and 131 have a multifunctional button for activating assistant (press up to 1.5 seconds), changing tracks (double press), play/pause (single tap), and taking/ending calls (single tap).

Note that, you can’t increase or decrease the volume.

Charging Case

One thing that bothered me about Airdopes 121v2’s charging case is there’s no indicator outside. Though you can check to charge percentage on your phone. But if I don’t want to stay connected.

There is a display inside the charging case to check the battery percentage.

Airdopes 131 doesn’t have a percentage display but there are 3 indicators outside.

Bluetooth Version: Both have Bluetooth 5.0 with a 10 m range.

Water-Resistance: Sadly, Airdopes 131 is not sweat & water-resistant while Airdopes 121v2 is IPX4-rated.

Call/Mic Quality: Each side has a mic. I’ll say that the mic quality is just okay. Not much reliable for online sessions.

Noise Cancellation: As neither of them has active noise cancellation then passive noise cancellation is what they got. My experience with Airdopes 131 was bad for the design but Airdopes 121 was better.

Accessories: USB-C cable for charging, earbuds of different sizes, and all the required papers like the manual, warranty card, etc are included.

Users’ Feedback

What customers appreciated most about these wireless earbuds is the sound quality, good fit, and how it is very easy to connect.

The only controversial thing is the battery life. For some, the battery life is enough and for some, it’s not. So, it depends on how much time you spend using them.

Some said that it would be better if the bass was a bit deeper. But you can’t really expect much from 8mm bass drivers.

Also, users faced problems during calls due to poor mic quality.

  • Comfortable
  • Nice sound quality
  • IPX4 water-resistance
  • Easy to connect
  • Could be better with more bass
  • Battery backup might not be satisfying for all

Customers are aware of what they can get in under the Rs 1000 budget. There’s barely any complaint about the sound quality, design.

As I mentioned, some users felt they lack bass. It would be better with longer playback time but that’s manageable.

The only disappointment is the poor mic quality. Although I didn’t see any complaint but keep in mind that it’s not water-resistant.
